August the 15th marks the 100th birthday of Julia Child. On this day, the world celebrates her life and her legacy of wonderful cookbooks, TV programs, and just plain good taste. Julia’s most famous cookbook Mastering the Art of French Cooking: Volume 1 first went into print in 1961 and has stayed in print ever since. She also penned several other titles, including Volume 2 of the Mastering series and her memoirs My Life in France.

Here on fullybookedonline, we’ve chosen to pay tribute to her with our favorite quotes that came from Julia Child, plus an extra one from a little movie we love (we miss you too, Norah Ephron!).

Julia Child Art "Cooking is a lot like love. It should be entered into with abandon, or not at all."

"The only stumbling block is fear of failure. In cooking, you've got to have a what-the-hell attitude."

Julia Child Art "Fat gives things flavor."

"You are the butter to my bread; you are the breath to my life." Paul Child to his wife Julia from the film Julie & Julia

We agree, Paul. Julia has added flavor to our kitchens, our dining rooms, and — most of all — our lives. Thank you, Julia Child. We celebrate you today.
