We’ve compiled a list of free comics for fanboys and girls and pop culture vultures who are all about the latest in their favorite entertainment franchises. For this Free Comic Book Day list, we’re leading in with the wildly popular The Walking Dead which features a one-time set of stories not to be released anywhere else except this FCBD special. Also, we’ve got a little bit of the universe’s most despised, yet ironically most well-loved villains, Darth Vader and Boba Fett.

FCBD is almost here—just two days to go!

1. Walking Dead

For TV series junkies and pop culture enthusiasts, The Walking Dead needs no introduction as it is one of the most popular programs today, based on one of the most highly acclaimed comics of recent times. This book is a must-have for fans of the show, and the FCBD website tells us why:

“This special Walking Dead issue contains a new Tyrese short story, who made his television debut in The Walking Dead Season 3! It also reprints short stories featuring Michonne, The Governor and Morgan. This special issue is a must-have for Walking Dead fans–none of these stories will be reprinted in the trade paperbacks!”

Availability: All Fully Booked branches.

By the way, if you haven’t yet been bitten (pun intended) by the zombie bug, maybe this trailer of the show’s first season will drag you into its world:

2. Star Wars

Few properties inspire as much rabid fandom as Star Wars—and with good reason. The Galaxy Far Far Away has brought us some of the most relatable, and well-loved characters of any story, villains included. And that’s why we think this FCBD special is gonna be a big hit. We follow two of the most well-loved Star Wars baddies: Darth Vader and Boba Fett in their sinister machinations! As an added bonus, there’s some Captain Midnight and Avatar in there too.

With the somewhat recent $4 billion acquisition of Lucas Film by Disney, Star Wars is set to remain in the public consciousness for a long time to come with an even greater following than in the past. Expect this comic to move fast! Availability: Fully Booked Fort branch only.

3. Mouse Guard

An Eisner award-winning book, Mouse Guard is set in a medieval world of sentient mice in a struggle for survival amidst a harsh world filled with predators and enemies—remember, these are tiny rodents we are talking about (they have lots of enemies)! Aesthetically beautiful in its style,Mouse Guard is also eye-catching to those unaware of its esteemed place in the comic world because of its unorthodox, square flipbook format. Lovers of all things medieval and classic, line up for this one. Availability: Fully Booked Fort branch only.

4. Mass Effect

Sci-fi role-playing enthusiasts, you will already be familiar with the Mass Effect computer game which has gained a reputation for its outstanding characters, exciting plot lines and deep universe. This book is a triple whammy, says the FCBD website: “Three blockbuster titles fill this FCBD offering! In R.I.P.D., a séance goes terribly wrong! Then, in Mass Effect, follow a flight-school grad as he breaks the rules to prove himself in space! Finally, check out the police-state landscape of the highly anticipated miniseries The True Lives of the Fabulous Killjoys!” Availability: Fully Booked Fort branch only.

5. Strangers

Conspiracy theorists unite! Strangers is for you. FCBD touts this as “A cover-up of international proportions, and at the center of it all is the Strangers’ deadliest foe, a man known only as Capricorn. A man who knows the Strangers. A man who sees them.” Availability: Fully Booked Fort branch only.
