During the Fully Booked Junior Book Crew (JBC) sessions this past summer, we asked some of the participants about what books changed their lives. Here’s an entry from Camille, about her experience reading Matilda by Roahl Dahl.

Any kid would love to be a super hero flying across the sky.  Who wouldn’t want to have have awesome powers to save your friends and make enemies cry? I know I would.

Matilda is anything but any ordinary kid. When her friends and the brilliant Ms. Honey are bullied by hammer-throwing Ms. Trunchbull, she doesn’t sit around to wait for a fairy godmother to fix her problems. She makes the miracle happen. Matilda is definitely a true hero I’d love to become.

This book is the spark that began the endless hours of staying up at night until my eyes turned sore from reading. Matilda is a book every kid should read. Even adults will find Matilda and her mischievous antics interesting. Bookworms will find themselves in the pages of the book, laughing and crying along with her too.

The Fully Booked Junior Book Crew is a summer workshop that focuses on reading, writing and creative play with book lovers between 11-16 years old. If you’d like to be part of the next one and are in that age range, check back with us in February-March 2015! We recruit during those times.
