Join us this first quarter at the Revisiting Required Literature Book Club as we pour out some tea and fierce opinions. The theme running across our January to April sessions is Ladies’ Night; hence, books with women authors and/or prominent women characters.
We open up 2015 with the Bennett sisters in Pride and Prejudice by our premier lady literatus Jane Austen then move on to Helen Fielding’s unabashed Bridget Jones’s Diary. The latter is seen as a contemporary take on the former so we will scrutinize two renditions of Mr. Darcy. The summer will bring us domestication and displacement as we gather around the mah jong table of Amy Tan’s The Joy Luck Club and the newlywed’s home of Gillian Flynn’s Gone Girl.
This January and February, it’s the clash of the Misters Darcy.
Post-Women’s Day discussions are The Joy Luck Club in March and Gone Girl in April.
We meet at the usual place (The Forum, 4/F Fully Booked BGC), day (Friday), and time (7-9pm).
